My Mother is planning a little Memorial Garden for my eldest brother who passed away in 2007. We are going to buy her a rose bush as soon as some good ones appear in the nurseries.
I am painting a rock with "In Loving Memory" with his name and dates. I am using Creamcoat by Delta, which is an acrylic. I have used this before on rocks and it works very well - but, I am concerned about it being outside in the weather elements. I did not think about this till just now, when I am almost finished painting.
Is there a better paint I should have used that would not wash away? Or is there a sealant spray that would protect it?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Phyllis,
Once acrylic paint is dry, it will not wash away. But, being out in the elements could cause it to crack or just wear off the surface. You can varnish the surface with polyurethane. I used to paint mailboxes and I would spray a coat of it on, after the paint dried. One of my mailboxes still has most of the design left on it 25 years later!

Hi Helen, nice to hear from you.
Thank you so very much! I will get some polyurethane. I feel much better now. This is really encouraging.

I've done a lot of painting from pictures, wood to concrete. I always us this sealant and the paint stays on for many years and is good for indoor and outdoor painted items. So this will work on your painted rock. It is called Patricia Nimocks Clear Acrylic Sealer. I always spray on 1 light coat, let dry and give another light coat. It comes in a blue, white and black spray can and can be found in the art department at Walmart or any craft store. You will just love it.
