That is great that you are moving your cravings!

There are some great low-sugar yogurts on the market - but other yogurts are LOADED with sugar and fruit and are more candy than food. Always make sure you look at the labels of your yogurt to ensure it's a healthy brand and not one of the high-sugar brands.

For whatever reason, yogurt is specifically one of those "health foods" that some manufacturers just DUMP sugar into.

I have a whole fat greek yogurt that I eat that doesn't have added sugar. It's really yummy.

That sounds great Jilly! I had a favorite low sugar brand but I can't find it ANYWHERE in the stores now. All the yogurts my store stocks are full of sugar!

I know, it's nuts. Why do they have to load up yogurt with sugar? It's basically pudding instead of something healthy, which is totally unnecessary. Yogurt tastes good as it is.

Maybe the idea is to at least get people eating yogurt for the calcium? Or the dairy industry is pulling a great big load over us all with the idea that yogurt is a healthy food?

Jilly, Like anything that is processed and put in a can or box since the industrial revolution we are eating chemicals and mono-monosaccharide because the are cheaper. Also when your blood sugar drops you body craves what satiated this need before. If it is a di- or tri-monosaccharide then you might crave an apple or an orange ..you get the picture but like fast food if you buy a 6 pack of dannon light yogurt and hit that as a snack when you blood sugar drops it cause the same operant conditioning as a person who smokes or drinks plus even more dangerous..we have to eat. So we as consumers cannot be relying on the Federal Food and Drug administration to watch what we ingest. Thanks for the, `food for thought!' -No pun intended

That's a good question though - is it really cheaper for them to make high-sugar yogurt than for them to make low-sugar yogurt? Wouldn't yogurt *without* sugar last longer on the shelves for them, so more people could buy it?

I think it's a taste thing. People are addicted to sugar, so they dump loads in and get away with making people feel good about eating it.

With all the different sweeteners out there though, couldn't they dump in Stevia for example, get the same "sweet taste" and not have the high weight gain / blood sugar effect? Wouldn't that be the best of both worlds?
