Being Japanese, I am acquainted with the Shichi Fukujin. In fact, I have an iron garden decoration that is a ship holding all seven.
I think there seems to be a little misunderstanding in semantics of the term "god" that turns off a lot of monotheistic people.
I believe in one God. But I also think that there are immortal spirits, angels and such, some of whom oversee special interests.
I've been reading a lot of Japanese myths lately and I find it surprising that for centuries, the entire nation believed (at least it was taught in schools as history) that the Japanese are descendants of mythical gods and hence, special and superior.
