Have you tried getting or using slightly smaller plate sizes for some of your favorite dishes?

For example, we used to eat ice cream out of soup bowls. The standard ones that come with Corelle dish sets, so not huge, but not small either.

Now we have just one scoop or a scoop and a half out of a glass ramekin. It still feels like a lot - especially with the scoop overflowing a bit from the ramekin - but it's less that we ingest.

On the other hand I use *huge* bowls for my salads, so that I fill up with them. That way I get my stomach full with the healthy salad and then it doesn't need much of anything else after that to finish getting me full.

Have you tried changing the plates you use for eating different things? Have you bought any special plates for this purpose?

Lisa,I've never thought about using a ramekin for ice cream, but I'm not much of an ice-cream eater. But I love a big bowl for salads. The bigger, the better, I say.

Right the key is to think about any less-than-great food that you might eat, and downsize its serving plate a little. Then think about the healthy foods you eat, and increase their size a little. That helps you get the balance right!
