When you marry a man who has had a previous marriage and wants to take full custody of his child when he gets remarried, how much will that kill the honeymoon phase? Don't get me wrong, I love them both but I'm not sure how I'll feel about the romance giving way so immediately to having a child around. Has anyone been through this? What's it like? What should I expect?

I can say for me being a step mom is great although there are plenty of ups and downs along the way. My husband has had full custody since his son was about a year old. When we got together I knew his son would come first but now sometimes I feel left out. I love them both but sometimes I really just dont know where or how I'm suppose to fit in. When we first got together it was new for his son because he wanted a mom so he accepted me but now that we are married and I'm here for good sometimes I feel like its a struggle between his dad and I to make it through some days. I will say that you should be up front with your soon to be husband about your fears and try to figure out how to keep the romance and fun in your relationship and set time aside for just the 2 of you.

I am always hesitant to answer these threads because I find step parenting very very hard. I am also childfree so I don't know if that plays a part in it.

I knew what to expect when I married but the reality is very different. She is a good girl, it's not her. It's my feelings of being left out, being an add-on so to speak.

Ups and downs I guess is the best way to describe it.
