I've been trying to brainstorm how people who journal could help out Haiti, based on their journaling talents. Journaling is a very introspective thing, and usually journals are private.

Definitely you could say that we are better during the daytime because we journaled. We helped organize our lives, resolved issues, and got our brain a bit less tangled. That means all our "normal activities" run more smoothly, which is of course a good thing.

What do you guys think? How can journaling help a charity?

I suppose you could offer to run a class on journaling at your local library, and charge $10/person and tell them it's all going to Haiti. This might get you a lot of donations and a fun class time, all for the donation of your time and skill.

I bet that would work!

What other ideas are there?

Maybe an online journal with links to contribute?

I'm kind of new at this journaling online, so I'm not sure what to suggest at this time, but the wheels are turning.

That is certainly a good idea for blogs! I would highly recommend that anyone with a blog use their links for good causes.

How about the more private journals though? Maybe you could help elderly people with their journals - ones who cannot write well any more - and charge a small amount, telling them it's for a good cause. Then you can use that money for charity.

Helping elderly write their story is a great way to not only spend time with them but record and publish their stories at the library of Congress. . .that way family members who are doing geneologies can find out something other than dates. . .Our elderly are often forgotten but they have so many stories to share and life lessons!

Thanks for the reminder Lisa!

That brings back a memory... I remember when I worked evenings in a nursing home in Connecticut. There was a lovely lady in her 90s who always took time after dinner to write in her journal. She was delighted to meet another journal writer; she simply hadn't known anyone else who loved to write too!

She had, she told me, been writing for well over 60 years, and she simply couldn't rest until she wrote "at least a little something" every evening. She had a pretty little antique writing desk. I can still see her, sitting there...

Sorry, didn't mean to veer off-topic there.
