Sloane or Astrid? Sloane is of Irish and Gaelic origin and means "warrior" Astrid is of Old Norse origin and means "fair, beautiful goddess" I don't care so much about the meanings as I do the names, what are your opinions? Any middle name suggestions? Thanks in advance!

How about both names - one first and the other middle? I think I like the sound of Astrid Sloane better than Sloane Astrid. Otherwise, I like the name Astrid Shayne _________.

Not Sloane - it has bad connotations in the UK. There is a posh area of London called Sloane Square and the kind of girls who frequent that area are called Sloane Rangers. If you say someone is a Sloane, it means a posh, not very well educated, rich and vacuous person.
Astrid is nice though

Oh, I love the name Sloane! Always have, but I'm not in the UK so had no idea of those connections. I'd put it with a longer middle name, though, depending on your last name. Maybe something like Elizabeth, Madeline, Makayla, Addison?

I prefer Astrid.

I'm also not in the UK, so I don't have anything bad to say about Sloane. (It does remind me of the girlfriend character in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, though.)

I prefer Astrid, because I just don't like Sloane, I don't like the sound of it.

I do want to clarify that I live in the U.S. and I have heard of "Sloane Rangers" in the UK...but I don't think anyone here would really know about that (I lived in the U.K. for about a year awhile back). We really like both names, I know not everyone will...but we are extremely stuck on middle names. I think both names need longer very feminine names. Just my opinion. Thanks so far for answering my questions & I welcome many, many more :)

I think longer and more feminine middles would be a great way to go for either Sloane or Astrid. (Especially Sloane.)

I like BellaDeb's suggestion of Elizabeth with either one. Also, how about:

Sloane Amelia, Sloane Olivia, Sloane Athena
Astrid Valentina, Astrid Linnea, Astrid Tatiana

I think both names sound great with middle names that begin with a vowel: Astrid Elisabeth, Sloane Elisabeth Astrid Aurelia, Sloane Aurelia Astrid Amelia, Sloane Amelia Astrid Alyssa, Sloane Alyssa Astrid Eleanor, Sloane Eleanor I also like: Astrid Eileen Astrid Leonora Sloane Amber Sloane Eveline I still prefer Astrid and my favourites are Astrid Leonora, Astrid Alyssa and Astrid Amelia.
