I have applied for more than 110 jobs in the past 10 months. I got no response at all until I took off my photo, my date of birth and my first 10 years of working life.

Then within days I had my first interview. However, I have still only had only 3 interviews with 2 more this week. One of these interviews took 9 months from job application to being contacted for an interview.

I think this is a very poor % of interviews to job applications. From 2 of the interviews I was never contacted afterwards even to say sorry no I didn't get the job. From the other interview I did get a part-time (1 day per week) short-term job which is now complete.

I am 58, female and a cochlear implantee and I think all of this goes against me, despite I have excellent exprience to senior management level and a degree.
Without exception I have been told my presentation on the letter I write addressing the job criteria as well as my resume are the best they've received. I've also been told I present well in person.

In addition, only

Welcome Felicity

It does seem unfair that the experienced and mature have to polish their resume to be competative in today's job market not to mention having a hearing issue as well.

All of these things are obstacles that can make your job search more difficult but your determination greater.

While you are polishing your resume be sure to leave out any age related dates that are not necessary such as the year you received your degree, having the degree is sufficient enough. High School information is not necessary since you have a college degree. Never list your date of birth on a resume, it is not needed information. Also remove any outdated computer skills and replace them with current computer programs that you have knowledge of.

I have found a website in Australia that may be of some help:

Job Services Australia

Good luck in your search and keep us posted. I hope the above website will be of some help to you.

Thanks Gwen
That web-site is about unemployment benefits. Our son works for Centrelink which is the agency monitoring all benefits. I think you call it welfare. Everyone in Australia when they become unemployed is entitled to claim benefits. However, it is means tested and does depend on other household income. eg. I earn more than the benefits threshold and despite my husband having been in work full time and now unemployed, he can't claim a bene

This was really helpful unlike those scammers on the internet, a good example is bayt.com, This website is a money making scheme. They initial services are free and then they force you to pay $250 to create a CV or remain jobless. This is not fair, this is fraud, the are cheating people out of the money they rather use to survive in the countries that $250 really matter.
