The other night, my son and I stayed up late, talking and watching tv. Our old dog lay nearby. Suddenly, his ears perked up and he stood up on alert. He took a few steps and cocked his head sideways. Now, this is an old dog who no longer cares about neighborhood cats or opposums or even the occasional door-to-door salesman.

But tonight, he jumped up and looked up the stairs. Then, his head moved as though his gaze were following someone walking around. All the while, his ears and fur were standing up. He was not afraid or aggressive. Just curious. And then, he walked to the front door and then lost interest. I opened the front door and he went out, sniffed around and came back.

I had a dog who once did the same thing when I lived in another house, but he was protective. He growled and barked loudly while "following" someone all the way out the door.

It was clear that my dog "saw" or sensed something. What or who? Later that night, I dreamt about my recently deceased uncle who told me that he "was back." He died but now he was positively gleeful that he somehow managed to "quietly walk back." He thinks he somehow is pulling the wool over someone's eyes by sneaking back to the physical world. I know he is concerned about his wife of over 50 years.

My daughter, whom he cared about, sleeps upstairs and I feel that he peeked in on her.

What do you think about this?

Animals have a much keener sense of paranormal activity than we do. My neighbor came over one day and asked me to "clear her apartment". Her cockatoo bird, who was usually quite calm, began acting strange and jumpy and would follow something around the room with his eyes then get very frightened. I went over and smudged her entire home, felt some negative heaviness there, then calmness after smudging and praying. She said her home is now clear.

Animals often see or sense things we cannot.

I think every one of our dogs over the years has displayed this type of behavior at some time. But then I have always lived in older homes too. That might be a part of it.

I think it's wonderful you have your own "Visitor Alert" system. This type of visit is so special and combined with the dream makes it even more.

Though I have heard and seen so very much..I still always have a hard time believing much of what others say of these encounters. Yours however, just had that "ring of truth" about it. I feel bad too, about being so hyper-critical. about other peoples stories. I think it's a by-product of the traumaof going through it for myself. It's interesting to me that you would dream about your uncle and have some confirmation with your dog. I know cats can see too.. but I like the alarm system dogs have. They work VERY WELL.!! Thats why I have 3 of them now!

I have had a similar experience, my father had passed away in what is now my sons room, & one morning I was walking past the bedroom when I saw the dog jump up on my sons bed, sat there looking up & whining, I stood there & looked but saw nothing myself,he kept this up until I removed him from the room. After a few minutes I opened the door & the dog jumped back on the bed, sniffed all around & left, what ever was there had obviously left. It looked like a seen from the movie "Poltergeist", & if someone had told me this story I may have doubted it's truth. I agree with the other post animals aren't resisting this type of sense like we are inclined to do.I think you should just keep an open mind, if your uncle is trying to contact you this will help. blessings )0(

I use to have a beautiful freind Shelby. He was a Spaniel that I had originally met up with when I was in college.

A pet shop was going out of business and I brought him home to my apt. We lived on the 3rd floor, nothing above us. At the craziest times he'd sit on my bed and look out of the corner of his eye and bark, like he wouldn't make eye contact - it was strained, you could see it. He'd do it when no one was in the bedroom. He'd just go and do it.

When he did this, he'd look around like if you have a cat and they're after a fly. Sharp head turns. But with Shelby it always seemed like there was something in front of him that he felt inferior to. He'd never meet it head on when he'd bark.
