We have some earthbound Souls, it isn't a hell, but more often than not its just leftover energy. Everything around us can act as some form of a recorder. Some people have a place or usage of their brain that can pick this energy up. Just because we're dead, we don't have an endless supply of energy to keep speaking for centuries with strangers. It's just too exhausting and lacks purpose. We're the same person when we cross as we are here.
With animal communication, if someone tells me they see pictures and feel emotions when they speak with our furry friends, I'm going to chose to listen to that person over someone who says they have sitdown conversations with them. Animals have a limited vocabulary. They may recognize names or associate the word, 'Dinner' with something, but they're going to lack the ability to make sentences, period - short or long. You might talk to yourself, though - "Sometimes I'll go, "Oh geez."or "Ew..." but I'm not talking to the pet.
