I just reread the article on this topic, and must admit that I do this and didn't realize it was a form of journaling. Does anybody else do this?

I'm not sure what it is, exactly, Lynn Ann... can you tell me more? It sounds quite interesting!

Ok, I had to refresh my memory faded as it is....she is our journal editor...here is part of the article...hope it is ok to borrow this from the article....

1. Find a song that you will never forget. Is it the song you danced too on your wedding day? Is it a song that gave you comfort? Is it a song that you heard on vacation? Whatever the moment, make sure it is the one you want to start with. I began with a song that uplifted me when I was so down. You may want to begin with a song that brings an instant smile to your face.

2. Google the songs lyrics. You want to find the exact words and most of them can be found on the Internet. This is very important because you are using an artists work and you want to do right by the artist.

3. Once you have the lyrics written (or typed) you are ready to begin journaling. Do not just write (or type) a portion of the song. Take the time to write out all the verses and choruses. You may be surprised to find verses you never knew existed!

4. Begin by journaling about the time and place this song takes you back to. Once you have the basic info out of the way it is time to write about the emotions brought out. I always start with the who, what, when, where, why and hows to begin a song journal. Each song is different and these prompts help the writing to start.

5. Sometimes you will find that you want to highlight phrases or verses, even change some words.

6. Finally, as you finish writing you will know the message you will want to leave. You may have pictures to go with the song. You may just paint the picture with your words.

My grandson is beginning to associate songs with moments in time. . .I have been encouraging him to write down the title when he draws a picture or something and it has been good. . .He so wants to be a writer and he is only 5 years old but reads at a 6th grade level. . .His goal this year is 300 books and he has already read about 40! Now he is beginning to journal his ideas to write his own stories so that we can publish them. . .Am thinking about putting together an eBook of his journaling pages and pictures for everyone!

Oooh, okay.... I have done that, only not nearly so nicely structured! I've written about songs and the person who comes to mind when I hear the song or think of it, whether it is part of a memory or just a song that I've purposely associated with that person in my mind.

For instance, who remembers "Footloose" the movie, and the song "Holding Out for a Hero" by Bonnie Tyler? When the movie came out, I bought the soundtrack album, and a friend and I, both single, decided that was a wonderful song, and in a silly way decided that's what we were each going to do- hold out for a hero! I wrote a lot about the conversations we had regarding that.

So now, years later, whenever I hear that song, I think of that time, and I smile and say aloud, "That's what I did, all right," just for the fun of watching my husband heave a sigh and roll his eyes...

[Appropos of nothing: WHY in the world are they going to re-make that movie???]

That's a great song doxi - did you see Shrek 2? They have the song in there and it's really well done!

They're remaking Footloose?? That was a *classic*!
