This is X-posted here and on the Bellydance forum...if I'm not supposed to do that, please tell me off accordingly! I'm looking for a yoga routine for belly-dancers, something to stretch out and tone the muscles most often used, i.e. the abs, obliques, glutes, and back. I know a little about yoga, but not much, so any help would be greatly appreciated! His_einna

Hello,

I don't think you are breaking any rules here so I'll go ahead and answer.

You've wandered into the Yoga site at the right time, because I'm in the middle of writing articles on stretches - head to toe. There's a subject category just for this called, "Yoga Stretches", and they can all help you.

One thing about Yoga: don't get bogged down with you can or cannot do right now as far as reaching, bending and getting into proper form. That will come in time, so long as you stay with it.

Always go as far as you can, and after your first few attempts, push a little, but not painfully so. Your body is learning every time you stretch, so it will remember and eventually you'll be exceeding what you thought you could do.

Yoga is excellent for warming up and cooling down as well.

This week my articles will be targeting the body's midsection so belly-dancers can definitely benefit.

Here's a link to the Yoga Stretches category:

I hope this helps you - and have a very healthy New Year!

Excellent, that's perfect...thank you! And don't worry; my balance is rubbish, but I'm remarkably flexible for a size 16 girl...I have a bean-pole best friend who can't do things with her body I can with mine, and she's a gymnast! His_Einna
