It appears that the electric tea kettle is becoming quite popular!

Do you own one?
Is it quicker?
Is it just another thing to take up room on the counter?

There are very many options, and manufacturers of this type of item.
There are automatic shut offs/temp. controls/use less energy/faster/ So who has one?

Post your review here.

I've had an electric kettle for 40 years - everyone in the UK has one. When I was a child, my mother used to put a kettle on the gas hob to heat. When my husband went on a business trip to the US in the 1980s, he phoned me from the apartment he was staying at and said, 'There is no kettle, how on earth am I supposed to make tea.' We always have a kettle and a teapot in this country. How can you manage without them!
The modern ones boil just the right amount of water and shut off automatically. The old ones that you put on the gas hob had a whistle and would sing when the water was boiling. That was to tell you to take it off. Do you know the old rhyme:
Polly put the kettle on, Polly put the kettle on, Polly put the kettle on we'll have some tea.

Yupper-do and I absoltely love it. I got one of those big hot pots that keeps the water hot all day for Christmas , but I haven't used it yet. I'd really hate to go back to a regular kettle or a pan. Mine has 3 temperature settings, but they don't work really well. I've had it about 3 years

Hello! My daughter just got one in October at her wedding shower and she loves, loves it! She keeps telling me I should get one- she tells me it beats the tea kettle for the stove.

But do you lose the charm?

Ah progress.....

Part of the fun of tea is doing what pleases you. If you like a kettele on the stove, by all means, do it. I have 2 electric pots, but I keep a kettle because it looks homey. Best of both worlds!

teafortoday, I agree keeping the character of something that has been passed down for generations has much more charm and adds to the meditative process of tea drinking. But in a hurry, hurry world (that the younger set live in)and some of us old dogs are still in the forever rat race- I see where the electric kettle provides promise. I'm not closed minded just setimental! I will eventually come over to the other side (I am sure daughter will be suprising w/b-day gift)
