Gerald Ford was a very good President. After reading the biography of him called "Write It When I am Gone" I have a greater appreciation for President Ford.

Each president on your poll has fine accoomplishments, but I had to choose George W. Bush, and my forthcoming article explains why:

George W. Bush's Legacy

BTW, it's "Reagan" not "Regan."

Sorry for the typo on Reagan's name.

Personally, I believe George H. W. Bush was a far superior President than his son George W. Bush.

But after repeating, "Read my lips, no new taxes," H.W. raised taxes, and W. cut taxes.

Also, H.W. didn't finish the job in Iraq; that's why W. had to.

Of course, if it is a "personal" preference, there's no response to that. Personally, I think they are both fine men of good humor, honesty, and integrity, but W. was elected for a second term while H. W. was not.

The tax hike that George H. W. Bush signed was the right thing to do. It begin the reduction of the national debt in the 1990s. This allowed the great economic growth of the 1990s to begin. He assembled a greater and stronger coalition of nations in the fight against Saddam Hussein after his invasion of Kuwait. He ended the war quickly with few casualties and accomplishing the specific goal he set out to achieve. He was an excellent organizer and administrator of the Gulf War from Desert Shield to Desert Storm. I greatly admired how he handled that situation.

Ronald Reagan gets my vote. He was very aware of communism, what it stood for and the damage it did to the hearts and souls of the people it oppressed. He was determined to put an end to it. He was not afraid to speak his mind and show his love of America. He was so uplifting to listen to and always made me even more proud to be an American. He was one of a kind. He, along with Margaret Thatcher and Pope John Paul II, (another great person who wanted to end communism) helped bring down the "wall" without a shot being fired. His "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" speech will live forever. They say that he had such respect for the oval office and the presidency that he would not even take his suitcoat off in it. (Unlike some other presidents who will remain nameless.) He had a way of working with Democrats which I think no one has had since. It was a shame the way the media tried to make him appear as a old, forgetful man, but to me he was a modern-day hero and the father of modern-day conservatism. God bless President Reagan!

Tax hikes are never the right thing and never help reduce national debt. The economic growth of the nineties were mostly a result of the dot com boom.

Worst thing was that he left Saddam Hussein in place.

I agree that Reagan was a great president. I think all on the list are excellent. I have that speech. I notice that it didn't get attached. I think you have to imbed it instead of just placing the plain URL.

Linda,

I respect your opinion, but I respectfully disagree.
