This week, I decided that after the sugar-rush of Thanksgiving, that I needed to give sugar a much needed rest. Now this really doesn't affect my coffee because I never put sugar in it. Creamy evaporated milk is enough for me. But I have given up all sweets including candy, pie, cookies, and ice cream (my fav) for at least the next 21 days. Yes, that means through all of the holiday celebrations--I know, I'm crazy.

But I am feeling so great that I am concerned that much like caffeine withdrawal, this sugar withdrawal is going to hit me over the head in a few days with some nasty physical symptoms.

Have you ever tried to go without sugar and should I be on the lookout?

I went off most sugary things years ago. I noticed a huge increase in my energy and I didn't experience any withdrawal symptoms. Caffeine withdrawal is a real pita, but I don't think there are any real sugar withdrawal symptoms - except cravings! smile

Thank you Jeanne!

That is great to know because I feel really great, euphoric in fact.

My body/brain has noticed the absence of sweets because every now and then I get a "Hey, what have you done with our treats???" but I really have no desire to answer.

I just try to keep hydrated, I am working out and eating good foods. I am also making sure I get rest and not increasing my normal caffeine intake of one cup of coffee in the morning.

Yeah, I really didn't notice any sort of withdrawal, except wanting sweet things. When I eat the sweet things, I get really lethargic so it's simply not worth it to me. There are plenty of sugar-free candies, sodas, Splenda, etc out there so when I want something sweet I can still get it without the sugar. smile

OMG! YES! I am addicted to sugar and "it" makes me feel miserable. There are times that I go cold turkey and avoid sugars for weeks at a time and it's the times that I've felt the best. I'm glad that you've brought it up. Someone told me once that sugar had an addictive affect, I thought they must be high on something else...lol...yea, well, I now believe it. As soon as I allow myself to have a taste, then I go ahead and have it in a little more at a time, and the next thing I know, I'm eating all day long and all night long. Sugar increases my appetite. People who eat "normal" probably wouldn't be able to relate, but I think anyone who has ever gone on "diets" have probably noticed it. Initially, I thought it was just the guilt of having gone off the diet, but after going through drug addiction, I see the similarities. Good luck - stay away from the sugar and stay healthy! Stick with the candy that God makes. You are Joy Joyfully, Janet

"Sugar increases my appetite." Wow, Janet, you hit the nail on the head. It wasn't that I ate so much sugar, it was the effect sugar had on my overall eating. I feel so laid back now about food in general whereas before I was always seeking something.

This morning BEFORE my coffee I felt so alert and excited--this is amazing.

I am really loving this!
