On Monday January 4th 2010 TNA is going to air a 3 hour (8pm-11pm Eastern time) show to compete with WWE Monday Night Raw. The introduction of Hogan and Bischoff has bringing more interest and momentum to TNA, and they are doing a good job at building interest. They keep alluding to Hogan's eventual appearance on TNA, and that he is bringing a multitude of surprises with him. Not sure who Hogan plans on bringing in, but he's expressed interest in trying to bring in Stone Cold (doubt that would happen), RVD, and Randy Savage.
I'm thinking that TNA is actively pursuing WWE stars that were up-and-comers who showed a lot of potential, but who's run was cut short for whatever reason...guys like Mr. Kennedy comes to my mind.
I'm also thinking that TNA is trying to think of a doing a different regular celebrity guest appearance like a guest host like WWE does, but trying to think of doing it in a way that's original and unique to TNA. Hogan also feels that he knows how to use the legends to get the up-and-comers much better than Vince McMahon where it's more of a win-win for everybody involved.
On Psycho Sid's Myspace, he is trying to bait WWE to sign him by putting a TNA Never Say Never logo on his page and then following up with a blog telling the WWE needs to listen to what the fans want and sign him up.
The only thing I heard that WWE is going to do to contend with TNA airing on Monday January 4th is that they are going to extend to a 3 hour show as well.
I don't think that is going to be nearly enough for TNA has been doing a good job building up to the arrival of Hogan and keeping us in suspense to the surprises they claim to have in store for us on Monday January 4th.
Unless WWE can get the Rock to appear on their show that evening and set it up with a teaser a to build up the element of surprise to the Rock showing up on RAW that night, I think they're going to pretty much be screwed for ratings against TNA that night. And if TNA beats WWE in ratings by a considerable margin, then you can bet Spike TV will take a chance and work out a deal with TNA to air a show every Monday night to compete, rather than just for one night only.
Edge came to my mind too. Edge suffered a torn achilles tendon, which is a much worse injury than most people know or realize. I mean we're talking about 1.5-2 years to heal, and then maybe another year or two for the tendon to strengthen to 100%, which would definitely be slowed by active in-ring duty. If Edge does right the right thing for his injury to heal properly and most effectively, then I it's questionable that the WWE will be patient with that based on their history. This could open the door for TNA appearances.
