Hi guys. Ok, so I've been highlighting my hair for years. It is very fine/thin. I had an idea to go dark for the winter to get my hair healthier and away from the bleach for a while so when my roots came in I decided I wasnt quite ready for the dark. I went to the hair salon and asked them to just lighten my dark brown roots to a light blonde so that it would all blend together and I could kinda extend my highlights a little longer. Well the roots turned orange. I didnt ask them to fix it because I was afraid to have them ruin my hair yet again. I put a blue/violet blonde wella toner in thinking it would get rid of the orange but it didnt do anything at all. I have heard about REDKEN color shades and blonding gels. Does anyone recommend these products and do you think I can use these and the orange will go away??? I really hate looking at my roots. They are horrible.

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry that your first post had to be a problem with orange hair! Very disturbing.

The hairdresser tried to lighten your hair too much with a tint. It lifted to the orange stage and was not strong enough to get past it. I suggest darkening the roots enough to drab out the orange.

If you want blond, you will need to reapply a high-lift tint to try to lift the orange out.

I would return to the beauty shop and tell them to "match the roots" with the rest of your hair. THEN, find out what color they used to attain this "match", and use it for as long as you need to, i.e., until all of your "colored hair" grows to a suitable length to cut off all but the re-growth, and "start from scratch"). What a shame. I feel bad for you. I put a color on my hair once that "turned orange", and I had to use bleach soap-caps everyday until the orange color "went away", but I can assure you that if you do this, you won't end up with "any brown at ALL., so better to return to professionals to "fix this dilemma.
