I think it might help to hear what the other side is really saying about the issues today.

Health Care:
Dem's cure: Take it over, run it into the ground as they just did with Cash for Clunkers.
Rep's cure: Allow insurance companies to compete across state lines, tort reform.

Economy:
Dem's cure: Centralize the money to the government and then divy it out to those who "deserve" it.
Rep's cure: Cut taxes- it has proven to work.

War:
Dem's cure: Complain about it for six years and declare the war lost when not in charge of it and then procrastinate and put it off when you "inherit" it. Ignore the Generals that you appointed when they say they need more troops or the war is lost.
Rep's cure: Go in and get the guys that are already at war with us no matter the cost because they will be back. (Ft Hood)

Illegal Immigration:
Dem's cure: Legalize them all and give them welfare to ensure loyal voters forever.
Rep's cure: Go after businesses that are hiring illegal immigrants, and do not give illegal immigrants welfare. When the money dries up for them, they will go back on their own and then maybe try it the legal way. It is a slap in the face of all those that follow the rules to reward those that do not.

Poverty:
Dem's cure: Throw money at it. Tax those that have money and give it to those who do not. War on Poverty- This is the longest running war in American history and there has been no progress doing it the Government way in over fifty years.
Rep's cure: Allow the private industry to handle charity, not the government.

Hope I got most of these right, if I'm wrong feel free to correct me or add on to these thoughts.

That's a pretty good overview of the situation . . . & I am optimistic that people are waking up to it. The Gallup poll shows that if the mid-terms were held today, people would choose the Republican candidate over the Democrats 48% to 44%:
