I really love the look of Red Work and would love to learn how to do it.
What kind of thread would I use?
I have several transfers I can practice on. I am assuming from what I read that I use 8" squares. I was thinking of using bleached muslin for my fabric.
Any hints or ideas would be great.
Thanks
Linda

Hi Linda

You can just use plain old embroidery floss to work it. Use a nice bright red and two strands of thread.

As for the fabric - if the muslin is nice and heavy, by all means use it. A light weight calico is also good.

As you will be using such a strong colour, then remember to soak your floss in cold wather with some salt added before you use it to ensure that any residual colour is released.

Just take the wrappers off the floss, and put it straight in the water - you don;t need to unskein it and then lay it in the sun to dry.

Hope that this helps

Just an update.
I have soaked my floss and dried it. Nice weather to do it here in TX.
I just got a call from a gal in my quilting bee that she is starting a "Red Work" bee. How cool wil that be? We will have our first get-to-gether Friday morning.

Linda
