I was having a discussion with one of my editors about what percentage of people are *totally* sedentary - i.e. never do anything at all active. She felt that 90% of the population never did anything at all active, and I felt that number was high. Most people I know enjoy biking, hiking, and even walking.

Chime in with your thoughts - are you 100% sedentary? Or do you have activities you do sometimes?

I used to be almost completely sedentary, while I was caring for my mother before she passed, last year.

Then I had to get back into the workforce and started by working at a big box toy store for the Christmas season and lost 13 pounds in a month. It was the hardest work I've ever done!

In January I started working at a preschool. I am active all day lifting babies from the floor to the crib, high chair or changing table, playing on the floor with them and putting them into the buggy that seats 6 babies and walking them around outside for 30 minutes on all sunny days.

Many evenings I'm so exhausted I go to bed by 8:30!

But, in the past 11 months I've gone from a size 16 jeans to size 9 without dieting. My face is a lot thinner, too. I should probably send in a new editor photo, LOL.

Unfortunately I haven't lost as much in my upper body. Genetics is against me there, Mom passed on the tendency to be well endowed and I took it to a whole other level. But I'm happy with the new jeans and I have a lot more energy now, as well.

Sorry for the delay in this reply! blush

It is a great job. Now if it only paid better! LOL

I was a hospital RN for 15 years and now I tell people that a bad day playing with babies is better than a good day at the hospital.

I believe strongly that money isn't everything, that quality of life is incredibly important smile

Subjecting your body and mind to stress just isn't worth it!

I'm on day #12 of no smoking and also gained 7 lbs in those 12 days. Since I quit smoking I can't get myself to do much of anything but hide out in my bedroom. (I somehow seem safe from ciggs in there) I bought a exercise bike, used it once then decided to move it in front of the TV - thought i'd use it more there. I've been on it 4 out of 6 days. I don't know if this will pass eventually with more non smoking days (I hear that depression can set in when we try to quit smoking) I just can't seem to get off the couch most days and get back outside. Any suggestions? Also any suggestions how to get back to eating a little more healthier and losing the weight once again. It's my biggest battle. Thanks and all have a great weekend.

That is SO awesome that you are quitting smoking! It is definitely VERY challenging to break that habit so if you find yourself with energy I wouldn't beat yourself up over it right now! If you gain a little weight and get a little sluggy, that can be fixed long term. The great good you're doing for your lungs is well worth it!!

Don't feel guilty, feel proud smile

I would not do anything to risk your smoking cessation efforts.

That all being said if you have a NON SMOKING friend who would go for walks with you, give them a call! Only walk places people aren't smoking smile

Today I worked in the garden for 1.5 hours - getting everything put away for winter - and then Bob and I did sword practice for a half hour. So I was fairly active!
