Does anyone make a habit of pinging their blog postings to the se's? A friend of mine did an ebook on how to generate free blog traffic and that was one of her suggestions.

It's really easy to do using something like Ping-Matic or Pingoat. It's free to do and they alert the se's that you have new content.

Looking at the two sites you mention they don't go to what I'd consider search engines, such as Google, Ask, etc but to aggregators, in other word sites that republish your material.

I have never been happy with these sites. The web is full of them, no original content using stolen stuff scraped from other sites wrapped around with adverts generating income for them not the writer of the material they stole.

Or have I misunderstood it??

I do not like scraper sites at all! It's annoying that someone can just come along and make money off another person's original works.

I agree completely that scraper sites are the bane of the web smile It would be nice if Google had some way to exclude them. I want to see where content really is, not where it has been scraped off (illegally) to! smile

are those really republishing sites? i saw google blog and my yahoo in ping-o-matic. i really want to generate more traffic to my blog, however, i don't want other sites "republishing" my content but instead point them my way. from what i can see, some just post links to your blog, so i think you just need to choose which ones to ping to. thanks, i might give this one a try. :)

We know that SEngines love fresh content. They have a routine of looking for fresh content. Despite wasting time on pings, using the social media websites and share each post to them can help to promote our blog and content.
Like digg, stumbleupon, technorati etc,are more crawled and used by the SEngines. So if our blog post is available at digg front page, it will be more helpful in the context of SE and the real world.
