Can anyone tell me what this plant is? It was huge it towered way over me by feet. The blossoms were small; looked like a sunflower but much much smaller. We feed all the local wildlife so it could be a seed from the mixed bird feed. This is driving us crazy.....

The fence in the background is 8 ft. the garage is quite tall.

Could they be Jerusalem Artichokes? If so, the roots would look like a cross between potatoes and ginger.

It is a type of sunflower. There are many types of sunflower and this type grows wild along the roads in the State of Nebraska. The flowers are smaller but the plant grows quite tall and spindly. It is lovely but prolific and spreads like wildfire if not kept contained. Birds eat the seeds and spread them in their droppings often.

The flower does look like the Jerusalem Artichokes but, the leaves are different.

Gold finches went nuts over this plant they created a cloud of gold.

There is a lot of see in the bird mixes - could be anything.
