I have two kiddos in my current client load that will be taking the SAT in the 7th grade (for the Duke GT program). They're terrified, poor things. The upside is that they've had a full year of test prep through their school and will likely do very well on the SAT. The downside, I doubt their scores are going to be truly reflective of their abilities; instead, they'll reflect the benefit derived from the test prep (so says the research on the topic at any rate).

Hi Lynn-

Most of the kids I know don't prep for talent search. I think it's a shame that the prep industry has become so huge that it is trickling down to 7th graders. I don't understand why kids who have the benefit of a prep course would be scared- is it because they are told it's a big huge deal?

Absolutely, Lorel! The parents of the kids I work with press for it and press hard! It's very unfortunate; and for many of the kids I work with, absolutely not necessary.
