Fall is here, the perfect time to go for long walks, for enjoying the outdoors with temperate breezes! What are your health goals for this wonderful season?

I wouldn't focus just on weight. We all know that often weight "plateaus" as we get more healthy, as we trade fat for muscle. This is an ideal long term situation but one which can get frustrating if weight is the only thing we look at. Instead, look at fitness!

With all my surgery woes I haven't been eating much and it shows on my scale. My stats right now are:

weight: 131.4
fat: 26.4%
water: 51.3%
bone: 6.3
muscle: 39.4

Now I have no doubt that as I start to get active that my weight could go UP because I'll be gaining muscle (which is relatively heavy) and losing fat. That is fine! My aim is to become more healthy. I currently have little energy and trouble sleeping. Getting in better shape helps both of those things.

So chime in with your goals! Do you want to walk twice a week? Go biking? Right now I for the first time in over a MONTH did my sword class and I was exhausted by the end of it. That's the only active thing I've done all month. I really need to start doing that every week, and also doing my dance-dance-revolution at least once a week.

I wanted to go walking today but Bob claims his tummy hurts smile

Hi Lisa: I'm new to this blog and am very excited to have found it. I am starting the "metabolism miracle" diet tomorrow, which I am very excited about! Along with the diet, I plan on upping my exercise regiment. Walking is my main mode of exercise, so the plan is to increase that to at a minimum 4x/day for between 30-45 minutes. I also have a gym membership which I've not used in months, so the goal this month will be to go the gym at least 1x/week. Then maybe some yoga... We'll just need to see how things ... One step at a time!

Welcome Kaseyp!

That is awesome news that you're going to start becoming more active! It is so healthy for your body no matter what your other plans in life. An active body will be much more able to survive falls and trips and things, and keep you going for decades.

Definitely find things you LOVE to do. I.e. if you are "forcing" yourself to go to the gym you're likely to stop. If you are actively looking forward to yoga because you love to do yoga, then you're much more likely to keep going. Find things that you feel are fun to do!

For example I have dance dance revolution (the video game) which I really enjoy. So I actively look forward to going downstairs and dancing smile

I am in flagstaff, AZ, right now, and the weather is perfect for all kinds of hiking and fun activities. My plans for my sojourn here include: walking, trail running, hiking, yoga, using my twist board and dancing. There are excellent bars here with great dancing. Last wed I danced for about five hours at the Ladies 80s night.

My goal is to continue to lose weight and inches. I'd let my weight creep up a bit and so started exercising more. I've lost 6 lbs so far and want to lose another 4 in September.

That is so great Jilly - good for you!

HealthyMom - that is excellent! The key is not to think of it as "exercising" (in a negative way) but as "having fun" (in a positive way). Like Jilly is having fun dancing! Like I have fun dancing. Think of things you can have fun doing, that you'll actively want to do.
