Hello everyone, I thought I would entroduce myself, my name is MaryBeth and I am now your new Hunting site editor. Its September, which means here in Kansas and in many other states, the early archery and or muzzel loader season for whitetail is just around the corner. Who is dusting off the cobwebs and getting ready for this years hunt of a life time?

Hi Marybeth,
Today is opening day for archery for whitetail here in New Jersey. It is raining...so don't know if it will be a good day.
Hope to see some interest in this topic.

Hi MaryBeth,

I'm so glad to see you here. I'm a former Bellaonline editor, and all the time I was here I was hoping to see a new hunting editor. I look forward to your posts, and I will be signing up for your newsletter. I'm a hunter wannabe to be honest, but I hope next year to begin.

Hello, Trish and welcome to the forum. smile

Hunting is a great sport, I know you will enjoy it ! Not only is hunting itself satisfying, but it can lead to so many other great interests that surround animals and weapons; shooting competitions, wild life management, cooking, historical reenactments, you name it, Im probably involved in some way. smile

I see you are from Michigan. Michigan offers a great contest every year, the Pure Michigan Hunt, where you apply and are put into a lottery-type drawing. They draw 3 winners and those who win are able to hunt black bear, deer and elk for that year. That is SO cool ! Id love to apply! ( looks like out-of-staters can apply, however they are not eligible for the Elk part of the hunt) frown But thats ok ! smile It would just be an honor to be chosen.

Have you completed any type of hunters education?

I look forward to your questions and input .

Thank you for your interest smile

Thanks for the welcome MaryBeth.

No I haven't completed hunter education, but opportunities abound here to do so. I've recently attended an NRA Women On Target shooting clinic. It was so much fun. The people who put it on also offer hunting safety courses among others. My husband and I plan on taking some of those.

Thank you for telling me about the contest. The clinic was held at a hunting and fishing lodge very near me that my husband and I hope to join next year. They have hunting there which might be a good way for us to start. I'm also considering the Becoming and Outdoors Woman program. There's also a conservation club nearby we're going to check out.

Have fun this hunting season. smile

It sounds like you are well on your way , enjoying the beginnings of a wonderful sport. Congratulations! I got the bug to shoot skeet from an NRA Women on Target course. They are really informative. Id love to attend an Outdoors Woman course, however, Ill have to wait another 4 or so years. In this area, they are held in September , which interfers with national guard and school events. smirk but i always keep my fingers crossed. Id love to hear about your experiences.

Today ,I should be out taking advantage of game movement infront of our first real cold front, however, it kinda snuck up on us so Im in the house turning on heaters and winterizing the place. Ive been watching a nice 8point buck who tends his scrapes and snacks on corn Ive put out only about 15 yards from the blind smile Im hunting for food but a trophy is always nice smile
