Granny,
I wish you luck. I had 2 hip replacements and I'm in the mids of a 3rd one, and I am only 30 years old

I had my hip joint removed 3 months ago and will get my new one at the end of October (hopfully) in the mean time I don't have a hip joint what so ever and moving is somewhat impossible. I am using a walker to transer from a chair to a wheel chair and back to bed

So I knwo how you feel, I also know the pain and wish you nothing but the best adn the speediest refcovery.
A knee replacement is easier in surgical procedure but is harder to recover from (from what I saw, heard, and experianced), only because the knee joint is more complex then the hip joint. However, in both surgeries you get out of bed and take a few steps the day after, very rewarding! The pain is there but right away you'll notice that the pain you have is different then the one you had prior to the surgery. The pain after the surgery is a normal post surgery pain which goes away after a few days to make room for the physiotherapy pain
The best thing about such surgeries is that once you are done with them and go past the first 2-3 weeks (first week is always the hardest), you'll feel like a completely new person, it's AMAZING! you'll be able to do simple things that are so hard now, much easier and pain free

I had a major hip infection (7 years after my second hip replacement) and had 4 debridement surgeries before they decided to take my joint out completely, so I am in for a long and somewhat unplesent recovery (it's been 9 months so far), I'm hoping to to get my surgery like I mentioned earlier at the end of October so I too, could go back to walking and life pain free.
Good luck on your surgery and if you have computer accecss and want some support from someone who has been thorugh something similar let me know

Susan, same for you if you neeed advice or have questions regarding things and feelings that only those who have gone through a replacement know, let me know

Good luck to your mom as well
