Hi Britt!
<L> I have to admit, I could have gone on and on with this topic ... but the "powers that be" insist we keep our articles within certain size constraints. Heck, if left to my own devices, my articles would be more like small (or maybe not so small) books! ;-)
Yes, Jerry has driven the "haul road" a couple of times - once in winter (thankfully in good weather) and once in summer. If I remember right, he mentioned that the road was actually better in the winter - at least on that particular trip. You should ask him for a "story" ... anyone who knows Jer knows what a story-teller he can be. They may get a bit exaggerated in the telling, but they are almost always entertaining!
Heck, ask him some time about the night he was plowing snow in Anchorage (working State DOT Road Maintenance) ... and scooped up a young moose right out of the way of oncoming traffic and unceremoniously dumped it off the side of the road. He saved a car from what would probably have been a nasty accident (moose/car encounters almost always end up a lose/lose situation) and the moose ran off into the woods none the worse for it's unexpected ride.
