Great advice! I told my daughter from the time she was young that she needed to have a career she really loved and learn to depend on herself financially.

She isn't married yet but I've always told her too to make sure she discusses money with any prospective husbands to make sure they have the same ideas about money.

My daughter is studying to be an architect and she already has investments and a retirement account so she's much better off than I was at her age.

I think financial education is key to financial success. After all, you need some knowledge of money to make your money work. Basic thing one can learn about personal finance is to read Wall St Journal and Business Week. Also, one should learn not to trust anybody when it comes to money matter. We see people like Madoff all the time. If somebody tells you something too good to be true, it is not true.

I agree with both of you --- communication and education are key.

Many women are reluctant to discuss money, it is almost like a "dirty" subject. On top of not wanting to discuss it, we too often rely on others to handle our money. Ignorance is not bliss!
