My MIL has a recurring dream - it is either she goes into a building with her late husband (1st or 2nd). He then disappears and then she cannot find him and then she cannot find a door or a window in order to leave. OR she does leave but then cannot tell you where the house or building was. She normally has a terrific sense of direction and can find any place even if she has not been there in years (not that this has anything to do with the dream; just thought I would throw it in).

It seems to me, Angie, that your MIL is subconscioulsy looking for some type of closure with one or both of her late husbands. There is some hidden confusion or sense of loss that she cannot reconcile to. Are there any issues that were never resolved with her and her husband(s)? Is there anything that needs to be forgiven on either side (her or her husbands)? She seems to sense something missing and seems to be looking for closure. Not being able to tell what building it is or where it is seems to point to the fact that she herself does not know where her husband(s) are spiritually and needs some confirmation of life beyond, the afterlife - or if there is an afterlife. She needs confirmation and closure.

I found Phyllis' take very interesting. I had wondered how independent she is - has she adapted well to being on her own? My first thought was that she was either lost or stuck without a husband.

Trishh, are you talking about me or Angie's MIL? As a matter of fact I am quite independant and do just fine without a husband. laugh Just teasing - I know you meant the MIL.

There does seem to be a sense of loss with the MIL that she is not fully accepting in her life and it is coming out in her dreams.

[quote=Angie]My MIL has a recurring dream - it is either she goes into a building with her late husband (1st or 2nd). He then disappears and then she cannot find him and then she cannot find a door or a window in order to leave. OR she does leave but then cannot tell you where the house or building was. The building represents her current state of consciousness and she is in her mind still seeing herself with a mate, or things she should be with this mate. Not being able to find a "door" or a "window" suggests that she has no vision....window.... or can find no opportunities..."door" to give her new meaning for life. Not knowing where she is or was...is another way of saying "she just feels lost" To sum it up....it seems the dream is suggesting or giving her big hints that it's time to find some constructive use for her life and a new adventure to give herself purpose.
