Sigh... Another friend announced she is pregnant today. This is the third one THIS MONTH, the 10th friend THIS YEAR. Feeling increasingly alone.

Aw, sorry you're feeling lonely -pat pat- but don't worry there are plenty of child free people here to chat with.

I know how you feel. I'm the only 30 year old around me that doesn't have or want children. I have no friends only because my friends have kids and don't have time for me. The only person I had left was my cousin and now that she has a 4 month old, I barely ever get to talk with her.

But let's try and look to the positives. Maybe you can find someone child free on here and make a new friend smile

I totally get it. One year, I had 14 baby showers to attend (helped host about 4 of them). It was pretty hard because I gradually lost one friend after another after their babies were born. I did get to help out one or two of my friends with their newborns, and that was fun because I felt like I was still part of my friends' lives and still important. But things changed even more after I got divorced.

If you enjoy being around kiddos, perhaps you could help out with bath time or when your friends' husbands go away on business? You will still be involved, and you'll definitely come home ready for a nap and be glad that you have decided to remain childfree. smile

You'll get through it. Just try to avoid baby showers if you can. Those are miserable if you ask me.

Hi Kate- I know what you're going through. it is SO lonely! Having to pretend to be happy about the babies, feigning interest in baby clothes and toys, etc. It gets tiring!

I feel your pain - am in the midst of a baby boom at the moment. Seven so far this month alone, with two more to come in the fall. And the two last close friends who have at least been contemplating staying child-free are making strong noises indicating that they're changing their minds. I am thankful every day that I am child-free. But it does mean some big changes in terms of close friendships.

Out of all my female schoolfriends, I'm the last one standing.

Fortunately, some of the guys are still without children! So at least I can go and drink beer with them when I visit my home town.

A very long-time friend of mine just returned from abroad and he brought us two souveniers; a new wife and a baby on the way! Up to this point, he was one of my sworn brethren of child free people, but like you said, another one bites the dust. In honesty, he's one of the few friends for whom I'm legitimately excited. Most of the time, I sulk and start to moan about how I've lost another friend to family (it's selfish, but I can't help how the reality of the situation makes me feel), but I feel a certain liberation being legitimately excited for him and his new wife. I still see some of my friend-parents now and then, but it's getting futher and further between. I'm 32 now and feel on a cusp of life where I really need to start making things my own, because the people with whom I would have shared it are slowly disappearing into the realm of familyhood.
