Rock gardens are beautiful! However, pets and kids can make it difficult to keep them looking pretty.
What about one of the newer pond kits? They're really nice. Some of them are expensive but I read somewhere recently how to make one yourself pretty cheap. I'll see if I can find where I read it and post it for you. Oh, if you do buy one, and you're near a Sam's Club or other place such as that try them first. Earlier this Spring they had two different ones and both were cheaper than home improvement stores. Also, check at
www.qvc.com. I was watching a week or so ago and they had a small one that looked very realistic for around $100-$150.
There are also several kinds of moss that do well in the shade. One is so soft it's like walking on carpet! I'm sorry I don't know the name of it but I'm sure you could find out at a lawn and garden shop.
