Though I have never personally tried it, I did conduct some research a while back for a
speed dating article I was working on then.
I think that for some singles, speed dating is a reasonable avenue through which to meet a variety of new people and make new connections. It is especially useful if you happen to get paired up with someone that is totally wrong for you because at least you know that the awkward or uncomfortable encounter won't last nearly as long as it would if you were on a traditional date.
It might not be the answer for everyone but I do think that speed dating is at least worth a shot for most singles today who are tired of wasting their time on a seemingly endless series of bad dates. Speed dating gives singles an opportunity to get a little preview of what a real date would be like with the person they choose to go out with. This is not to say that a partner chosen from a speed dating experience is a sure thing but there is some reason to believe that the brief speed dating encounter might serve as a pretty good indication of how a lengthier date might turn out.
If anyone has actually tried it out personally, please share your experiences with us. I'm sure it would be helpful for those who can't decide whether or not to give speed dating a chance.
