I tried twice to get yellow squash and zucchini to grow from seed this year, and only a hand full came up (I planted A LOT) and THEN only two survived the birds and bunnies. So, I went and bought some zucchini plants to transplant, put them in the ground, and now they look like they're on death's door. They've got plenty of water. It's been raining every night here. Maybe they're not hardened off well enough? BAH. If these guys die, I quit. BTW, last year, I had zero problems with my squash and I planted them elsewhere this year because I heard you should... Now it's nothing but trouble.

The squash are growing VERY well in the garden area - better than any squash we've planted previously. Interestingly, the cucumbers right alongside them are pretty much dead. Up on the porch we are growing both cucumbers and squash where they get far more sun. The squash on the porch are pretty much dead - while the cucumbers on the porch are thriving! I always thought of cucumbers and squash as pretty much the same. It baffles me.

So these are still the Burpee's Fordhook Zucchini that we started from seed back in April.

The squishy-ness comes from blossom end rot. We have that going with our squash too. We are also being plague with squash beetles. I was hoping someone had an organic cure for our beetle issues.

Kind of think this site needs an organic gardening forum too!
