Was having my coffee this morning in my usual spot - outside, rocking chair facing East with my Cremudgeon Kitty on my lap. I heard a ruckus and when I went to look 2 great big pilated (or piliated?) woodpeckers flew from the tree right next to the garage to another very close tree. They were squawking and pecking....what a site. Those are BIG birds, now! I'm wondering if they were young ones just not brave enough to separate, yet. Where ever one went the other one followed. Gosh they're beautiful! Racoon as been coming by most evenings before dark to finish up the cat food outside. There are a pair of grackles that are really eating it up. I don't care. They can all come and eat.

I just love the animals of Nature. My sister has some wonderful and funny stories about racoons. I told you that one where they watched the family at night thru the patio door. They would line up and sit there all evening watching the family inside.
Yesterday I saw only a few seagulls. Usually I see so many flying out to Pyramid Lake in the mornings. I see Eagles almost every day now and Hawk visited me this morning. He sat on top of the pine tree observing me. I talked to him for quite awhile.

Our pair of purple finches that nest on the front porch are currently busy with their FOURTH (!!!) set of chicks and it isn't even summer yet.
There also appears to be a pair of ducks...a green mallard and a large black coot that always hang out together and walk around the grounds of the development. Today they were disrupting traffic and playing with our across the street neighbors puppy.

That is funny about the ducks and the puppy, Wendy. I bet they had fun! This morning there was a crow out back just throwing a fit about something! When he saw me come out on the patio, he took off.

Ok so I am a little excited...we have a pair of bluebirds nesting in the bird house we put up on the garage in jest. Who would have thought they'd use it with us having 5 dogs?

Usually I hear birds singing in the morning - this morning, however, I have seen some people moving out (good idea, by the way...).

Those bluebirds must be very grateful to you, Wendy.
I just got back from walking my dog. Saw two Hawks and some quail. I love the way the Quails watch out for each other and call back and forth.

The people I saw the other day were moving in - not out (so it was not a good but a bad idea).
I saw, and met a lot of animals last sunday - on an outing with my neighbour - different kinds of water birds, fishes, ants and other insects, dogs, and horses.

I saw two Eagles this morning. I am sure they were Golden Eagles. They were a little too far away to be sure.
I saw several birds at bird feeders around the neighborhood. A lot of finches and Mourning Doves.
