I am working on my back porch today, answering a lot of email messages on my laptop, and I am seeing bumble bees! I love bumble bees, they are so critical to our food supply. There have been numerous problems for bumble bee populations in the US and I am thrilled to see them enjoying my flowers!

Do you have bumble bees in your yard? Do you see them visiting certain types of plants?

The bees are not as plentiful as they once were. We have plantation day in June and I am hoping to have a beekeeper come with one of his hives to talk about bees. They are so important for pollination.

We see less of them every year it seems. We had a lot of honey bees visit when we first moved here too and they seem to have vanished. We have more mason bees that you can shake a stick at. They use the wood on our garden shed for nesting. They think they own the place, so it's a real battle walking anywhere around the shed. They get right in your face and let you know you're trespassing. They're perfectly harmless though. They do a good job of scaring the paper wasps though. LOL

This month we have an event at our museum house. We are going to have a beekeeper come with a traveling hive and talk about bees. I look forward to hearing about them. You're right, they are fewer of them every year.
