I am getting married on July 18th. I am not a traditional bride. My dress isn't white, it is burgandy. Everyone tells me what I have to do, but I don't want any of it. Like, I really don't want to carry flowers. My soon to be Mother in-law says I have to. I think spending all that money on fowers is a waist. My fiance is on disability, he don't get that much money. We have to make his whole $721 dollars a month stretch. Every detail about this wedding, someone is fighting me. HELP, how do I get my wedding done without being a bridezilla. I accomodate everyone in my life, ALWAYS. How do I do it my way?

Smile and say "That's a good idea, I'll think about it." Then continue with your own plans.
My idea of a Bridezilla is one who wants to be such an over-the-top princess that she forces everyone to spend more than they can possibly afford. You sound like the opposite, a sensible bride who doesn't believe in throwing money away on a circus.
Remember, it is you and your fiance who are getting married, not everyone else.
Congratulations, and may you both be happy forever!

Has your family ever seen the show "My Redneck Wedding" on CMT? You might want to suggest they watch it. They might be a bit more accepting of what you want and don't want for your special day afterwards.

I've worked many weddings and it really comes down to what you can compromise on. Claybird's phrase "That's a good idea, I'll think about it," is a absolute gem. It can only be improved by adding "I'll have to write that down so I don't forget."

At least they will know you are listening to their ideas. Maybe if you explain how tight your finances are, they can do one of two things: 1. Hush up about it, or 2. Help you out. Just be sure to be firm on the final approval of anything they help with.

Good Luck and Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. If you can get through all this with the families, the two of you should be able to get through just about anything.

Congrats! Nothing peeves me more than people who can't mind their own damn business. I had an in law situation when my wedding was being planned. They basically tried to take it over. I later then dropped the entire event. I apologized to them and moved on. I got married the way I wanted to. Screw everyone, it's YOUR big day. Make it the best day ever! I don't see why the bride has to wear traditional white. Why do people act as if not following tradition is damning? People are just, ugh, sometimes...
