Hi, Kimmie--I finally took the hay off the beds my husband covered up. It was so easy. It just came up in clumps. So, then a daughter and I amended the soil in the sunniest part, and we have a vegetable garden started for summer! This particular daughter was my girly girl and would never have dreamed of getting dirt in her finger nails before, but something snapped. It's been fun seeing her delight in growing things, and it's nice to have help!! (She's an adult, lives nearby.)
We put the hay back over the dirt, except where things are poking through. Now we have a natural weed inhibitor! Yay!
