I love those old wooden drying racks that we used to set over the heater vents in the big old Victorian type houses. In the winter I always dried clothes on those racks and saved a lot of energy by not using the dryer so much.

Also, it was kind of therapuetic for me when hanging, checking and folding the clothes. It made me feel at peace and close to my Grandmother who had passed many years before then. It was like a meditative moment.

Over in this ever sunny Singapore, almost all of us hang our clothes to dry in the open. As for mine, I do likewise at the Roof Terrace.

Just a few families would use a dryer during raining session. No winter over here...Just summer all the year round.

I now live in an apartment complex and cannot string out my laundry on an outdoor clothesline. However, sometimes I string a thin rope across my pation, below the four foot high wall, and hang some sheets or towels. The fresh, clean scent of these dried outside awakens and refreshes my whole being. It is such a wonderful way to remember the memories and loved ones of the past.
