The story till now has been that Paul Gauguin cut off Van Gogh's ear after a dispute/argument they had. eek Is this true? Read the story and let us know what you think.

Phyllis, the link you posted above is not for anything about Van Gogh. Did you get the link wrong?

One of my art history professors in college told us that Van Gogh cut off a piece of his ear lobe after breaking up with a woman, in a fit of depression, and mailed it to her to punish her. I grant you, that's not normal behavior, but much less weird than the usual story about him cutting off his entire ear.

Thanks, Phyllis! I enjoyed the story, and anything that makes
Van Gogh seem less "unstable" is fine with me. He's always been one of my favorites and the song "Vincent" can still bring me to tears.

I love that song, "I should have told you, Vincent...this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you." Very lovely melody and the words are very loving.

I always liked to read about Van Gogh. He had a very interesting life and there is so much to see in his paintings, always some message hidden within.
