Is anyone finding that employers that you have sent resumes to, are not sending any type of conformation back?? What happened to common courtesy?? It would be nice to know they at least received the resume. crazy How many confirmations have you guys received, percentage wise??

Hi Mrs. P,
Thank you so much for the post. I tend to look at it from a couple of different view points. If I am job searching, I definitely want to hear back from EVERY resume that I sent in. You're right, that would be the courteous thing to do.

I also look at it from the HR prospective in that if I receive 1000 resumes for one position and my company has not gone the electronic recruiting route, it would be hard to get back to all 1000 candidates. Any suggestions for employers out there?

If a company has electronic submission, I think most of them do send out an acknowledgment.

I'm definitely interested in the results to this question as well...how many confirmations have you received and to go one step further - how many acknowledgements have led to a call for an interview?

Diane, you are absolutely right, it would be difficult, no impossible for HR to send out numerous confirmation.

My thought process on this may seem a little jaded, I apologize in advance. If a company wants everything done via Internet, then the company should also comply with Internet capabilities. What I mean by this is simple. The companies need to purchase a software program that not only accepts resumes, but also sends out a confirmation instantaneously.

Any other thoughts on this??

Warning, you should never ask me for a suggestion. I'm full of them, good and bad.(LOL)

When there is a job listed, applications are filled electronically. However, as Dianne mentioned, there are hundreds of applications for a single position. We write a letter only to those five we interview.

I am sure it is very difficult and frustrating for those job seekers who do not hear back. There are many though who apply for positions they are not qualified for and they are just meeting the requirements for their unemployment insurance.

So far I have only recieved a reply 3 times.....Im not sure of the %age but its low....maybe 10%? I have applied for approx 30 jobs. I do ALL my applications online so there is no excuse for them not just sending me a standard email reply.

Hi MunchkinsRevenge,

I have a friend that applied at about the same number of jobs and received an electronic acknowledgment for a handful and then has not heard another peep...and these are positions that are still being listed as vacant. I know he qualifies, but I'm wondering what the problem is.

Then again I know we listed a position for a librarian which required a Master's degree and received an application from someone who worked at a fast food restaurant with no college what-so-ever. Angie, you're right - I'm wondering if sometimes people apply for just about anything whether or not they're qualified. I guess it alls on both sides of the coin.

Hi, Lots of people are applying, in fact, more that usual. Recruiters don't even spend 10 seconds looking at each application they receive. It's super important that you have an HR profession to redo your resume and ensure that it is optimized for keywords, visual parsing and directly addresses the needs of the jobs. Of course, sometimes all you need is a good internal referral from an existing employee at the company to which you're applying. I suggest you try ResumeGuru http://resumeguru.us. My sister used their services and now she's working after a long 9 months of unemployment. They took extra good care of her and really walked her through the whole process. The people at ResumeGuru are even recognized by the National Writers Union. For an online resume service, I think they're great and even became a customer as well.

I wasn't looking for a letter or anything that would tie up HR. I was looking for an automated confirmation, just so I know they received my resume. smile

Thanks for the heads up on resume guru.

Best of luck to all and happy job hunting.
