Hi Angie, I've been using Tweetdeck for awhile, it's an independent application that reads from your Twitter feed, and lets you group the people you follow, so that you can read feeds organized that way. So for example, I have a Buddhism group that includes all the people I follow with Buddhist interests, and a group of fellow spiritual bloggers, and another of book lovers, one of actual 'real life' friends and family, and one of newsalerts and things. They all display in columns within Tweetdeck simultaneously and make it much easier to select out who I actually want to read Tweets from.

This is a great topic. I talked about it here in the thread called What Twitter Applications Do You Use? PLease take a look there - I am running out the door right now! But tweetdeck is awesome once you have more than 50 people you follow. smile

Yes, I have TweetDeck. Love it. I'm just learning how to do things with it and it's way better than having to read through all the posts to get to the few I really want to read.

Yeah i love it. You can change the color out from that gothic black if you like - mine is now a pretty blue background.

After talking with Jilly I am making a concerted effort to "read" Twitter again. I had completely given up because a few individuals were completely taking over my Twitter feeds with millions of posts and those posts made it completely unusable to me because I couldn't follow all the other people I was interested in.

I am happy that TweetDeck now lets me follow my 5 accounts all at once, which is great. Also, they let me post to multiple accounts at once which is really helpful. I have four separate accounts - on low carb, gaming, wine, and BellaOnline. Then I have my "master" account which has all tweets I make on it so someone who wants to see everything I post can read in that one spot. So the TweetDeck setup makes it easy to maintain that.

However, right now my five feeds to "read" are all "all friends" in each group which just can't work. Those certain posters who post millions of posts every minute wipe out my ability to follow anyone else. So I want to put them aside in my live feed so I can actually read what other people are doing. However when I try to make a group it only shows all feed members in my "wineintro" group. When I click on other groups it doesn't show any members at all. So I can't in essence make a group of "everybody but these 3 people".

Can anyone give help with this?

One of the bugs with tweetdeck is that you can't add anyone to a list of they have not tweeted recently. So for me I just have to keep working on updating my lists, as different people go back to twitter at different times.

For you, Lisa, you should probably make a list of "frequently tweeting editors" and "Once a day editors"...that would clean up your feeds a great deal.

For me, I have a separate category for for personal friends, one for networking acquaintances, one for news outlets, one for humor type follows (like Darth Vader, the cast of Firefly and Buffy, Fake Bill Clinton), one for big name bloggers/internet marketers...

That's the beauty of Tweetdeck. You organize it as you see fit. My personal friends one is the snallest list, but indeed the one i find most compelling.

Hi Lisa,I was with tweetdeck for about 6 months, but found it cumbersome and slow loading. I just changed to Seesmic which I find clear and simple...I'll post how it goes...

The thing is I don't see any names at all to choose from. Let me do an example.

LOLOL

OK it's working now! I know TweetDeck did two different updates recently, I wonder if one of those fixed it. before I would go in and choose one of my other accounts (other than WineIntro) and NO names would show up when I did that. Now I do get names.

Victory!! Progress!!

OK I made my TweetDeck green, that makes me happy.

I'm still stuck on the groups though. At least I can see the names now which is great! However I have a lot of people and I do want to follow most of them. How can I select everyone in the group easily, and then just unselect people as they start to spam me?

The great thing about Tweetdeck is the ability to create groups of people and then pay attention to whoever you want. So if you follow 100 people you don't have to actually read all their tweets, but you can make groups for family, friends, coworkers, etc or whoever else youre *really* want to pay attention to.

Exactly. Tweetdeck gives you the awesome ability to scan the lists with huge tweet volumes, and also scrutinize the tweets of the people who you don't want to miss.

Using TweetDeck but downloaded an upgrade. Now, only facebook items appear on the deck - all the Twitter items have disappeared. I cannot figure out how to fix the problem because I don't know what the problem is. help...

the message at the bottom says (I finally got that to work)
# Not Authorized Your username or password are incorrect, please re-enter your Twitter account details.

How do you re-enter details?

Wow, that sounds like a terrible upgrade. I don't know how to fix this. Do they have a support email? Yikes.

It is fixed. Evidently the password didn't transfer correctly; it did for facebook. I had to change my password and then figure out how to change it on TweetDeck. I would click on the default and want to edit and nothing happened.

I did find an email and sent them a note but never received a response. But suddenly the settings changed. Perhaps there was a bug and I wasn't the only one having a problem.

How have you been, Jilly. Are you doing a lot of traveling?

I still had the problem that I couldn't create a group of "all people in WineIntro" easily, to then start weeding out (removing) individual spammers.

I decided to just plow through it. One day I created a group by tediously clicking on every single member of WineIntro and putting them into a group. I then occasionally would remove someone from the group if they started hammering out repeated posts off-topic. I'm doing that each day for my six accounts and hope to have them all set up soon. Hopefully this is a one time process.

In a way it is because I'm no longer adding on new followers actively. There's no way for me to easily see who has followed me recently - I have no idea who has followed me in the past few weeks. I turned off all the emails, they were clogging my inbox. So I haven't added any new people that I follow. I also feel little incentive to add in new people to follow, I get a *ton* of incoming messages as it is. I don't really want more stuff!

Hi Angie! Not doing a lick of traveling. I need to wait until I can afford a new windshield for the RV (they are thousands of dollars). So I am just kicking around this one campground in So Cal for now. Hopefully will be able to travel by September.

Doing well, though. This is a very nice resort. Pools and water views and tons of amazing birding.

How are you doing? I am glad the Tweetdeck thing is fixed.

There is a facebook column on tweetdeck. How do you respond or can you respond?

Sorry about the need for a windshield. Enjoy the summer.

I love Tweetdeck's groups feature -- so useful for filtering Tweets from different people. Not sure about the answer to the Facebook question thugh, since I don't link my Facebook status and Twitter.

Yes, I like the groups you can create to cut down on the number of items in the list. The columns do make it very manageable.

Angie, I might have a lead on a new windshield by next week and hopefully there will be an install after that. Then I will batten Serenity's hatches and take a slow cruise to northern Arizona. I won't miss the heat here!

I do link my tweets to facebook, but via FriendFeed.

Anyone done one of these things recently enough to be able to list any of the steps for us?

Hope you find the windshield and get it installed. No fun if you cannot drive your RV around.

I have my groups in TweetDeck now so that is working nicely. Very manageable. Each group is a column side by side with the other columns.

In essence I glance at it every hour or so to see if anything interesting has come through. If I see someone spamming their particular column, making lots of off topic posts, I remove them from the group and that's that. It doesn't affect my followers or anything.

That's great, Lisa! I am so glad you found the perfect way to make Twitter useful for you.

Angie, thanks for the good wishes. I actually have new hope that I might be on the road in two weeks, which would be just awesome.

Jill - I'm not sure what you mean by categories?

I have a column for each account I have. So a column for low carb, a column for gaming and so on. Each one is the group I made up of all the people I'm following for that account. That way I can see what they're doing - and if someone starts spammy behavior I can remove them from the group without taking them off my actual follower list.

Right, Lisa that is what I mean by categories. :-)

So you don't have one for family/personal friends? Just wondering. So you have one for each of your interests, then? Like if I had one for Yoga, or Joss Whedon fans, as opposed to just a general timeline of people I like?

I think the difference is that I already have entire different accounts set up for different interests. So I have a BellaOnline one which is solely BellaOnline editors that I follow and promote. I have a low carb one which is solely low carbers. So all info I put out on a channel relates only to that channel - and all news coming in also relates only to that channel.

So personal friends would be on my lisashea channel / account.

that sounds a bit laborious - no offense. You have to log in and out of each account, yes?

I know dan has his own account and also the RunPee one, so he does log in and out with that, but I don't see any way around that one. One is a personal account and one is a brand.
