X

Xasis
was of the Pomo tribe in Northern California indentured to work on a cattle ranch. He and a fellow servant were out trying to find a cow for their starving families, when they lost one of the rancher's horses. They met in council with Chief Benson and decided to strike 1st to avoid their being killed as punishment.

After the strike, the tribe fled into the hills. Soldiers couldn't identify the men responsible for the murder of the ranchers, so they massacred a group of over 100 who were fishing in the Clear Lake area, men, women and children. On their way out of the valley, they killed every group of Indians they came upon.

Story as told by Chief Benson in 500 Nations, by Alvin Josephy, Jr.

I knew there was an "X" word in one of my books. I'll not soon forget that name.
