Hi, Heather,

I have migraines--mostly menstrual, with the occasional random one thrown in. And, as I am perimenopausal, the menstrual ones are from three to five days now every month!

The tryptans work for me but are so expensive -- I self-pay -- that I find myself suffering for quite awhile before taking them (I always think aybe it won't be bad, and it always is).

I've heard rumors something was going to be generic this year, but that it would still be costly without insurance. Do you know anything about this?

Imitrex just went generic, both the pill and the injection - I just saw the little sign at my pharmacy yesterday.

But of course that is because they have come ot with a NEW product - Zomig, that they can charge full-price for. I've got to admit, the Zomig works on my headaches like nothing else has - but it also knocks me flat on my behind! David dais he thought I was drunk or had taken my Ambien. I've never had a migraine med react like that before.

I was getting monthly migraines that at first lasted a couple of days, then got longer and longer til they never really went away. I started getting PMS symptoms pretty badly, too, which I hadn't had before. Because I'm 46, I thought it was the onset of menopause, and began looking into hormone replacement therapy.

But, I had heard that coffee can cause pretty bad headaches. I had also began to notice that my morning coffee wasn't giving me the lift that it had before - I thought I was becoming immune to the one cup, so I would sometimes have another a couple of hours later. But instead of feeling better, I felt even worse. Cranky, confused, exhausted, and head-achy. So, I stopped drinking coffee to see if that would help. Well, after 4 days of horrific body aches, and two weeks of grogginess, I started feeling much better. It's been over two months now, and I haven't had a headache, my PMS is gone - my energy and mental clarity are back, and I feel better than I have in a very long time.

I highly recommend to anyone who has begun to develop migraines, and they drink coffee, that they give quitting a try. It's way better than taking meds for a condition brought on by something you're ingesting!

Anyway, when I saw this thread I thought it was important to share my story. smile

Hi everyone! Yes, I have heard Imitrex is now available as a generic, this is a good thing! I do have insurance but even when using that Imitrex is still very expensive and I don't get to purchase them often because of it. I actually have thought about looking through medications and start writing articles about them. There are so many options and I am sure it would keep me busy.
Hey Shannon, I was thinking I had the same connection between my migraines and coffee(I only have 1 cup every morning)so I had no coffee for about a week but after day 3 I had such a horrible headache that just wouldn't go away. Well, needless to say by day 7 I was at the Dunkin' Donuts drive thru ordering that hot sweet cup of coffee! Most of my migraines occur randomly besides the ones I have that are usually weather related.
Thanks for sharing your stories smile
