I don't know what to do now. I accidently snapped the stem which has full of buds on it as I try to straighten it as it was growing in a funny angel.I got this orchid last year at mothers day so know little about them still. hardly watered it but somehow it has survived and even budding... but now I think I must have killed it. what can I do with the broken off stem? I have put it in some water for now but not sure if that is right either......

I don't know if this is the only thing you can do, but I had the same thing happen. I put the stem in water and each day clipped the end of the stem off about 1/8 in. Most of the blooms still opened, but the stem only lasted about a week. It was better than nothing. I left the rest of the stem intact on the plant and continued caring for it as usual. After about a month, another shoot started growing from the stem spike. It only had 4 blooms, but again, it was better than nothing. Hope you have the same luck.

You've probably done the best you can with a snapped stem. If it is a Phalaenopsis, then you may get a side shoot with more blooms. Good luck!
