In a recent story posted in the Chicago Tribune, President Obama would like to use a "greener" type of coffee/tea cup in the White House. Currently they are using a recyclable cup for hot drinks that have the presidential seal on them. They are left over from President Bush era. Wouldn't it be better to continue to use these recyclable drink cups until they are gone first and then consider something else? Or perhaps he would like them "recycled" into a soup kitchen or something?
Anyone's thoughts?

I meant to mention that those cups that they are currently using are covered with a coating that insulates the cup so that they are cooler to the touch (less hand burning)thus, making this a much less greener item. Less biodegradable.

So, does that mean you must use a piece of cardboard around a cup so that you can hold a hot cup? Perhaps they should use one that can be rewashed and used again.

Angie, according to what the newspaper and our coverage here, it sounds like some type of coating is put on that insulated the cups (chemical application resulting in them not being as biodegradable)
I mean Obama has the right idea, new and better cups for hot drinks, and reuseable pichers and drink bottles that are washed and reused for water consumption. And great that they are starting a garden. But I am not so sure that buying new instead of finishing the rest of the already available coffee/tea cups.

Oh Dear. You mean the Leader of the Free World doesn't drink his tea from fine china cups. No wonder the world is in such a state. How very low class. LOL

Zervia, absolutley! Tea should be drunk from the finest and slowly too! However, I'm picturing these cups the White house is using are for those who are visiting and staff and the like. I'll bet the president and first lady must have some beautiful china to take tea in, we just don't get to see that!
I would hope that they would be shown great respect even in the linens too.
I'll do a bit more research and see if I can't come up with a story for my next article!

I haven't found an update about the president wanting to find more biodegradeable cups has anyone heard any updates? Did they hire a new cup maker, or just do away with it all together?
