What do you think about this old dating philosophy? Do you feel there's something wrong with a woman making the first move, or is it acceptable? Do men "use" this against women -- "you don't have the right to complain about my behavior, since YOU asked ME out?" Interested in your thoughts.

I never thought men would "use" that against women. The "first move" is so old-school.

With that said, there is something about the fact that men prefer to do the chasing. Most men at least.

I think a lot depends on the age of the two people involved. Men my age, over 60, seem to prefer to be chased and love it. I, however, do not care to chase them, so, we never get together, because I prefer the old way, where the guy takes the initiative and does all the asking out - therefore, I am at loose ends here.

I have a "rules" marriage in that my husband asked me for my phone number, called me more than I called him etc and then he proposed to me. I never hinted or asked about marriage or anything. To be honest I really didn't think seriously about it until he bought it up. However none of this was planned. I found out about "the rules" like five years after I was married. LOL.

So from my experience I think men should do all of the courting and asking. If he seems hesitant the woman should take the hint and leave as he's "just not that into her."
