Besides the Holy scripture text, in my Bible, I have ribbons and special bookmarkers with poems, leaflets of funerals of loved ones, special notes from loved ones, a pressed autumn leaf my son gave me when he was four, and the first little flower (pressed) my husband gave me in 1965.
I keep my Bible on my nightstand, because I read parts of it often for strength and courage and peace. What is in your Bible?

I have my parent's Bible that has bith notices and death notices in it. I keep that on a book shelf.
My Bible is full of book marks, slips of paper, outlines from Sunday sermons and sticky notes all marking scripture I've been studying.

At one time, I was collecting very old Bibles. I had found one that had a note in it: "This book belongs to my Mother, Frances .... 1893."
Another one was from the 1920's and had several bookmarkers (peices of paper with poems, etc) and ribbons in it and a leaflet from someone's funeral. Someone had written on the back of the leaflet: "I will miss you on earth, but will meet you in Heaven."
There are a lot of memories in old Bibles. They become very personal over the years that they are in a family. I felt comfort when seeing that people of the past had so much love and faith.

That's a lovely collection. A Bible is one place where people keep those special memories and statements of their faith.

I gave one Bible that was over 100 years old to my great neice when she turned 18. She treasures it!

I think its very interesting that we choose to save certain memorable things in a Bible versus other favorite books, and especially regarding people close to us who have passed on. It just seems that there is no where else one can store such treasures. Maybe because we associate the loved one passing with what future God has planned for us too, maybe we feel that saving these memories in our Bibles can have an impact on their salvation if we keep note of it in the very text that guides our daily lives, like an indefinited prayer. I have poems and memorial clippings, and other special things, I even have the little roses from two funerals as (even though I'm a girl), I was pallbearer for my father and my grandfather, and I put the little rose with the sticky backing right next to where I entered their information in the front of my Bible. There is no other place worthy of those little roses.

Amen to all that, Monroe. God put the best stuff in there for us. I've pasted to the inside cover of mine, this fragment of poetry by John Donne: Batter my heart, three-person'd God; for You As yet but knock; breathe, shine, and seek to mend; That I may rise, and stand, o'erthrow me, and bend Your force, to break, blow, burn, and make me new. ... Take me to You, imprison me, for I, Except You enthrall me, never shall be free, Nor ever chaste, except You ravish me.

Right now, there are book marks and all kinds of pieces of paper marking scripture in my Bible.
