I'm typing this as quickly as possible so please forgive any mistakes. My internet is down at home and I'm at the public library. We've not gone a full day without the internet in about a 12 years--unless you want to count traveling and giving birth etc. LOL. This lets me know how I use the internet for EVERYTHING. Phone numbers, music, email, checking the weather etc.

Question of the day. On a scale from 1-10 how much do you depend on the net to live your life? For me I'd say it's a very high 8. I could adapt if I didn't have it, but boy do I love it.

How about you?

Mine is a 10. My husband has an IT business; I write and host websites. Nearly all of my research, banking, and purchasing is done online.

Yes, I could adjust to life without, but there's nothing like it for speed and connectedness! The Internet is the circulatory system of our global body, for sure.

Hope you get your Internet up and running soon!

When our computer crashed about a few months ago I was at a total loss! It made me realize, as Lisa keeps encouraging us, to back up everything, all my files!!!

At the library yesterday I signed up for two half hour sessions on the computer, went to sign up for a third and they said I'd exhausted my time for the day. Wow! And I was just getting warmed up. LOL.

Our internet was fixed yesterday afternoon so I'm at home again living on the net. Listened to my blogtalk radio while I looked through online masters degree programs, while I was working on an amazon post, while I was drafting a query letter while I was checking my email....

Phyllis, I hear you as soon as the internet went down, I put my most important documents on a key. I need to delete some old stuff so I can back up everything.

Lori: have you ever had an internet outtage and what did you do? Since I write, I could if I HAD to write everything long hand and type it all in at the library. But since I'd only have an hour a day I'd have to learn to type pretty darn fast. LOL.

I would say a 10. I try to stay off, but there are so many things that are easier done via computer. I feel like I'm making progress when I don't check emails in the morning.

I have a love/hate relationship with the internet. it's just too easy. I can sit at it all day, and often do, and not be bored. But it also keeps me from being more creative with my time - less reading with books, less painting, less hiking. Sometimes i wish society WOULD fall to pieces so i can do other things besides sit here in front of the monitor. :-P

I'd write long hand or read. But my handwriting is horrid because I can't keep up with the flow of thoughts! I cringe when anyone sees it because it looks like it was written by a mentally deranged person. hmmm.

Once when we had a power outtage, we didn't know what to do with ourselves. It was pitiful. We wandered around the house like aimless ants blown off course. I think we finally went out to eat. When we returned, the power was back on. And the tech-addicted peasants rejoiced.

Just like most other things, I think the 'net is a great tool when used correctly. I'm using it to get my writing career underway, which otherwise would take forever. I'm pretty much the opposite of Jilly; I think it makes me MORE creative (I read and write online, and I paint digitally, although... once this baby is born I could probably stand to do some hiking). However, I don't really DEPEND on the internet for anything terribly important. I use it for company, mainly, and to get other people's opinions... I wouldn't say I'm anti-social, as that suggests being actively against socializing, but I do hate being around a lot of people face-to-face. This lets me communicate without the discomfort. Also, as Stephen Colbert said: Great, use a big word nobody understands in a time when nobody can afford a dictionary. :P Biggest reason I use the Internet: research. I'd say 2/10.
