The only problem that I have with less frequent shampoo is the smell of unwashed hair...drives me insane after a couple of days.

Dianne, just tell her that you don't want your ends trimmed. I hate it when hairdressers are pushy. Or maybe go somewhere else and explain to them smile

trimming the ends should only be 1/8 - 1/4 inch. She shouldn't go crazy. If she does.... fire her

thanks guys I'm going to try that next time. Sometimes they SAY they are only going to trim and they start in the back so by the time I can see what their doing and they get to the front - I've lost a good inch plus.

Hello! Three of my sons are biracial triplets (black and white). we adopted them at birth, having been chosen by the birth mother at the very beginning of her pregnancy. We found out what their ethnicity is a couple of months after we learned we would be having triplets. This was before we knew their sex. WHen I thought at least one would be a girl I was so nervous about their hair. I found myself staring at every African American woman I happened to see in the store who I thought had pretty hair. Needless to say I got some veeery strange looks in return! When we learned they were all boys I relaxed a little, but have still been soemwhat anxious that I do it "right." When they're teenagers I don't want them to look at their baby pictures and "oh Mom" me!

They will be 3 in April and just had their first haircut earlier this month. I was hovering over the three hairstylists in the salon like crazy. Fortunately the owner understood exactly what I wanted and was able to oversee the other two. Their hair was really wild and out of control, reaching the tops of their shoulders. We ahd roughly three inches cut off, so it's still very curly, but they look more like boys now!

My two identical guys have very dark hair that is soft with loose curls. My fraternal triplet has light brown hair, but his curls are much tighter, very coarse, and dry. Before I got it cut we'd have a battle every day because if I didn't slather it and comb it through it'd turn into a disaser. This process is a tough sekll to a two year old! Now that it's a little shorter (not too short) it is much easier to manage.

I still wash their hair with tearless shampoo, because they're young enough that they get it in their eyes. Before it was cut I resorted to concoting a conditioner at home out of eggs, mayonnaise, olive oil and honey. I haven't used conditioner since we had it cut, but I do wet it and spray detangler every day beore combing it out. Is it important to condition it at this age? Unless they get it really dirty I only shampoo it about once a week. Is this ok?

hair oil or conditioner is very important to ethnic hair. The kinky curliness can make it more dry because the natural scalp oils doint make it all the way through the curls

I have noticed that my trio's hair is much drier than mine- even the two who have softer less coarse hair. I actually really liked the way the mayo-oil-egg stuff worked on it; the comb would just slide through afterwards!

Jamie,

Looks like you are on the right path. I can tell you this though. When my children were young 2 boys and a girl I use a spray conditioner, leave in daily moisturizer by Pantene and Luster' Pink. It is an oil conditioning lotion. It comes in light and reg. There is a whole line of hair care products that work great together. The shampoo is vey nourishing and soothing to the hair. You can feel the difference in your fingers as you wash the hair.
