a bit of background on us: My Hubby (30) and I (29) have been trying to concieve since 06/2007 with no luck. Finally in November we decided to go see a GYN and she did some testing to find out that I have PCOS which is probably the cause of my infertility. I switched to an RE in Jan of this year, and since have been put on an OCP for 21 days, and now am on my 4th cycle day. I called this morning to let my RE now I cycled(they were closed on days 1-3) and they told me that they got hubbies SA back and although the sperm count is normal, the motility is slightly low. So they want to do an IUI. I am nervous, scared, confused (why me), had a crying fit with my best friend, another with my husband. And have been reading online since I found out about the success rates and miscarriage rates of an IUI. Was just wondering if anyone has any stories to share, encouragement, success rates of their own. I go for my first u/s tomorrow, and then will start clomid, and then will go back for another u/s and do the HCG injection, then the IUI....

best of luck wingsofbeauty! you do need to chill and relax, sometimes TTC takes time, but any anxiety wont help. I know it can get you down but you have to try to stay positve!

I don't know what your going through ---exactly. I've been trying to conceive at 33 with no luck. I do know its heartbreaking when you want so desperately to have a child and be a mom.

All I can say is to try and think positive and relax. Stress is no good for this process. I did do some reading up on that and it causes anxiety, hair loss, and sexual dysfunction. Chronic stress gradually affects your health at first and then can cause major problems. Since you have been trying for close to 2 years, your stress levels must be through the roof. Try relaxing and having faith (no matter how hard that is) that this will happen. That might help a bit smile

I just read your concern while searching for some infertility help myself. I am 34 years old and have been seeing a fertility specialist for over a year now. My husband and I have gone through Clomid cycles, 2 IUI's, and just recently our first attempt with IVF. I feel like we are experts now, but still no baby. If you want to know ANYTHING about any of these things, just ask. I will be glad to help you. I know how it feels to go through this process and not have anyone to relate to. Luckily, I met a women that has gone through the same thing and now has twins. My husband and I have decided to wait until the end of May or early June for our 2nd attempt with IVF. Baby prayers please!

I had an IUI a few years ago with donor sperm. Under normal circumstance an IUI is not difficult and for most women it is not really painful. I did have a lot of pain, but that is because I have a difficult cervix and I knew that from the earlier testing so it was not a surprise.

Do everything you can to relax. Ask your doctor if you can take Tyelenol or something before hand to reduce any discomfort and help to ease your mind.

While my IUI did not work, I have since divorced and then remarried and I got pregnant (even with PCOS!) within 4 months after we got married. We now have a beautiful 6 month old baby girl and are hoping for another baby soon. So, even with PCOS and other issues, you still have an excellent chance of having a baby.

I had six rounds of IUI, and they're a piece of cake! They're much easier than a pap smear, and it helps alot if you take your hubby and get to know the nurse or whoever does it a little. I always asked their names (we had 4 different ones each time), if they had kids, etc. Then after it was over, my hubby and I would lie there for 15 minutes, hoping and praying and sending good vibes down there :-)

I'm sorry to say that mine didn't work. We had to use donor sperm, which decreases the odds, and.....it just wasn't meant to be.

Keep us posted - I'll be sending happy, positive thoughts your way!

Laurie
